Ellie and I went to the Grand Canyon.
Actually, we went to Phoenix, then Sedona, then the Grand Canyon. And it's just unfathomable. Majestic, enormous, grand on a scale that demands a bigger word that grand.
I've never stood on the moon and looked back at Earth. Seen pictures, through. And I've never spun myself around to catch one last glimpse of our planet as I drifted out of our solar system. I have also, however, seen that picture. (Thanks, Carl.) I can't imagine many other spectacles on this planet that match those for sheer emotional impact. And I guarantee there is no other hole in the ground as amazing as the Grand Canyon. This picture does it no justice. If you can, go.
I look forward to the day we return, courtesy of the Colorado River.
